top tips for securing your home

Top Tips For Securing Your Home

Whether you’re moving into a new house or putting safety measures in place to keep your home secure, getting started with securing your home can be daunting. The good news is that data shows how burglary is becoming less common with each passing year. To assist you with your home security checklist, we’ve put together some top tips for securing your home and deterring would-be intruders.

Secure your doors and windows

The first and easiest line of defence is to lock our doors and windows, but many of us forget to do so. Burglars are always on the lookout for an easy target, and an unguarded door or window can attract unwanted attention. It’s a good idea to keep them locked even when you’re at home, as well as double-check doors and windows before leaving the house. There are some gadgets on the market that can also assist you in keeping track of your entranceways. Door and window sensors are great because they can detect if a door or window has been left open, while smart locks can be programmed to lock doors or windows at specific times.

Upgrade your door locks

If you don’t have high-quality locks, simply locking your doors and windows may not be enough. Ensure that all outside doors are equipped with a deadbolt, making it more difficult for attackers to gain access. Also, make sure to double-check that your door frames and hinges are strong enough to withstand a break-in attempt as older doors or exposed hinges can put you at risk. Finally, you can upgrade to smart locks that can be controlled remotely.

Buy a home security system

Installing a home security system is one of the most efficient ways to deter intruders and notify you if a break-in has occurred. According to statistics, a home without a security system is three times more likely to be burgled. Intruders will most likely flee if they see a security camera or a sign stating that they have a security system.

House security cameras are a terrific way to add an extra layer of protection to your home. If there’s movement in your yard or on your front porch, security cameras can notify you, and door and window sensors can notify you if someone has entered or is attempting to enter your property. Your security provider may also notify law enforcement on your behalf, depending on their policies.

Lock your garage

Many people spend a lot of time and money protecting their homes, but garages are sometimes overlooked. This is a simple way to get access to your home. Make sure all of your garage’s standard doors and windows are locked, and instead of leaving your garage door remote in your car, keep it in your house. Additionally, keep the inner door between the garage and your home shut and locked, that way, even if someone gets into your garage, they won’t be able to get inside your house.

A smart garage door opener can be purchased in the same way that door locks can be.

Install outdoor lighting

When breaking into a property, burglars don’t want to feel like they’re on display, and external lighting can assist. Outdoor lighting may encourage the intruder to keep going because these are generally opportunistic crimes. Rather than leaving your outside light on all the time, buy motion-sensor lights that turn on when they sense movement. An intruder will be taken aback by the brightness, which may cause them to flee.

There are also many exterior security cameras on the market if you want to go that route. Boosting your video surveillance system can keep your loved ones and property as safe as possible, with options ranging from high-end gadgets to low-cost alternatives.

What type of roof

What type of conservatory roof should I choose?

It can be tough to decide which conservatory roof to choose for homeowners wishing to add an extension or breathe new life into an ageing conservatory. You might not know the difference between a solid and a tiled roof because there are so many different replacement roof alternatives. That is why the Supercraft team has compiled this post to provide you with information on conservatory roofs and which type is best for your home.

What is a conservatory roof?

The roof of a conservatory or extension is undoubtedly the most essential aspect of the structure. This roofing system protects the window and door frames from inclement weather in the UK. Glass was a popular conservatory roof design in the 1980s, and over time, this style has been improved to match the needs of modern homeowners. Now, there are a variety of roof options from which to choose. From basic polycarbonate conservatory roofs to glass conservatory roofs, homeowners can now pick from tiled designs, solid composite panel roofs, and roof lanterns.

What is the best type of roof for my conservatory?

The best type of conservatory roof depends on what you’re looking for. A glass design is a preferable alternative if you want a place flooded with light. This roof option allows residents to enjoy the changing seasons from the comfort of their own homes.

A solid or tiled conservatory roof is the ideal choice for homeowners who want to extend their living space beyond their conservatory. These roofing solutions enable you to use your extension all year, regardless of the weather. To make your conservatory blend in with the rest of your home, internal pelmets can be included in both designs.

A solid conservatory roof is an excellent replacement for older polycarbonate models. Glazing panes can be included in the profile, allowing natural light to flood your house. Because of its shape, this roofing profile is more durable, giving you better protection for your home.

The tiled conservatory roofs are available in a variety of colours, which can complement your home’s existing tiles and blend in with the rest of the addition. This roof, like the solid roof design, can include glass panels and an internal pelmet. This option will give your conservatory the appearance of a full-fledged addition.

COVID-19 Update – Re-opening of our Etruria Showroom

Dear Customer

 COVID-19 Update

Following the recent UK Government announcements and after careful consideration, Supercraft Windows have taken the decision to commence our operations and re-open our Etruria showroom with effect from Monday 1st June.

In this difficult time, we will continue to prioritise the health of our team, both internal colleagues and external partners and our customers. We have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and are implementing procedures so that we can fully comply with the government’s guidance on managing the risk of COVID-19.

Our operations will be limited to start with to ensure we stay COVID-19 secure; we will have some employees working from home and our suppliers are working at reduced capacity. Safe home visits for service, installation and surveys will be carried out using the guidance issued by UK Government – Working safely during COVID-19 in other people’s homes. No work will be carried out in a household which is self-isolating or where an individual is shielding. Customers will be contacted prior to a visit to discuss how the work will be carried out to manage the risk of COVID-19.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our business in this difficult time, and for your patience and understanding over the last few weeks.

Yours faithfully

COVID-19 Update – 12 May 2020 – Temporary Business Closure Continues

Dear Customer

COVID-19 Update – 12th May 2020

Following the recent UK Government announcements and guidance issued we have reviewed our situation and have decided that unfortunately, we must continue to temporarily close most parts of our business in order to help tackle COVID-19.

In this difficult time, we must continue to prioritise the health of our team, both internal colleagues and external partners, and our customers. We must also follow the guidance from the UK Government relating to Social Distancing. But we have noted the guidance issued on 11 May – Working safely during Covid-19 in other people’s homes, and this does provide us with the basis of restarting our installations and surveys. In particular installations such as roofs, could be started very soon and we are currently reviewing these contracts.

We will continue to update you as we look to restart our installations and other operations. Our showroom remains closed.

We are still taking orders and providing quotes and would like to thank those of you who have placed an order with us.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our business in this difficult time, and for your patience and understanding over the last few weeks.

Yours faithfully

COVID-19 Update: Temporary Business Closure

Dear Customer

COVID-19 Update: Temporary Business Closure

Following the UK Government announcement on Monday 23rd March, we unfortunately find ourselves in a situation where our business must temporarily close in order to help tackle COVID-19.

In this difficult time, we must continue to prioritise the health of our team, both internal colleagues and external partners and our customers. We must also follow the guidance from the UK Government, relating to Social Distancing, Self-Isolation, and also the restriction of movement.

It is therefore with great regret that we must inform you that our business is now temporarily closed as of Tuesday 24th of March for an initial period of 3 weeks. We will continue to review the situation as things unfold.

As of now, all outstanding orders and installations have been placed on hold. Once the situation changes, we will look to begin installations and delivering product as soon as it is considered safe to do so.

I hope you all appreciate and understand our reasons for taking this unfortunate but important decision.

Yours faithfully
